I had to think really hard about that. sad huh?
well I guess I didn't need to say boy because most girls don't have balls.
So it gets better. They just pulled the only other production designer into the CD's office and said "Hey, at the end of the month, when May leaves... well, you're leaving too."
Did I mention he has two kids, and one on the way?
FUCK this industry. No one has any honour anymore. Seriously, I am starting to think I can teach my self to survive on the salary of a Starfucks barista instead of ever doing design ever, EVER again.

You speak like someone with great ignorance about running a design business. Would you rather have the firm hold on to you and the guy with two kids and run the company into bunkruptcy? And have everyone out of a job? You're such a fool. Maybe you should have stayed in school a bit longer.
If you're so good, why don't you shut the fuck up and start your own fucking business and see how many clients will run to you. Your work is mediocre comparing with other hundreds of portfolios that come across my desk each day. Being good at design is balancing what your clients want and not your grand illusions of self imporantance. And being creative is not about being immatured.

Jeez, Jason, how can you be so inconsiderate and foolish? You fool! And portfolios come across my desk. Each day, even! That means that I am an important person who runs or helps run a design business instead of some lackey who does the boss's more tedious paper work and fetches coffee! You foolish fool, you.
Anyway.
It sucks that they gave that guy such short notice. The two weeks notice is supposed to be for when a person quits, not when they're being let go. Bummer.

I DO run my own Design Business, and letting go of your complete staff of Production Designers points directly to one thing: They're going to put that burden on the designers in creative, which in turn will slow them down and reduce honest billable hours on priority client jobs as well as the number of available designers when rush and priority jobs come in.
But if "hundreds of portfolios" really did come across your desk each day, you'd know that.
Loyalty DOES count for something, business is business, but without loyalties, your business becomes everybodys business.

As a Human Resources Exec... If you have to let people go due to business slow down...ya gotta do what ya gotta do...but you're not supose to enjoy it. The angry guy sounds way too defensive.
